Last week the children picked a special recipe that was found in one of our cook books in the classroom: A Tzatziki Dip that had cucumbers in it!
Each week at story time the children gather around and discuss different vegetables they like to eat. This helps us pick a recipe to go with for the week that involves that vegetable. This particular week we went with a BROCCOLI CHEESE CASSEROLE because Devyn told us how broccoli was her Favorite.
The block area will always be an area where the boys love to be and imagine many different things. As they spoke about angry birds hiding from ninjas and killing one another we thought it would be great to enhance and expand their vocabulary while they spoke about all this action going on and learn to use positive words.
As we try to expand their vocabulary we are having them explain, describe, define, ask, compare and contrast, respond, etc. In order to accomplish these skills, children need meaningful, engaging, hands-on opportunities to build an expressive vocabulary to both describe and tell the use of many familiar objects to incorporate new, less familiar or technical words in everyday conversations. Last Friday we baked: Zucchini Oven Chips
As we bake every Friday, the children continue to try and learn about different measuring amounts.
As we gathered around the carpet for story time, we had to make a decision on what we wanted to bake on Friday. As the children began to share their ideas, they all came to a quick agreement to make Pizza once again! The children decided what different ingredients and toppings they would like to bring for this recipe.
When we returned to school Friday morning we were excited to get to work.
