Everyday nature provides us something new to explore in our outside classroom. During one of our explorations, we noticed two caterpillars. The class observed that the caterpillars were different from one another and began to inquire about the differences. Some of their thoughts and questions included:
Our latest project has been on butterflies, and we are reading the book, The Very Hungry Caterpillar! In the book, the caterpillar eats through several fruits because he is hungry. While reading the book the children were asked to name the fruits. Most of the children answered apples to all the fruits. So that’s how our current project came about!
Our wonderful parents brought in fruit from the story. The fruit was set out on a table so that the children could see all of the fruit. We read the book and then found the fruit on the table that we read about. This was a good way to help the children identify the fruit by the name, since every fruit seems to be an apple ;0) Continue reading
