Story telling with our friends

One morning, the teachers saw two girls reading to one another. As we observed, we saw them looking at the pictures and creating their own story. The two children took turns telling what would happen next and developed the story together. According to educators Martha Hamilton and Mitch Weiss, giving a child the opportunity to tell stories is one of the most important life skills they can learn.

Tent + Story Time

Children in our school LOVE to read.  Each and every class has story time more than one time a day, and it is because of this love that we have begun a rotation where children share five books from their home each week.  Their love has also inspired a library in the School of Wonders, next door.

Our observations of this class has helped us see that children want to find cozy corners to read, so naturally we each created our own tents to read in. (Who doesn’t love reading in their own nook?) Continue reading

The Languages of Food

The staff is currently reading “The Languages of Food,” a book published by The Reggio Children, and it has made us look at food and learning in a different way. To put it simply, it has opened our eyes to the possibility of what food can be for the children at our school. Continue reading
