We are enjoying the book, The Very Hungary Caterpillar. Our favorite part is the end of the story where the caterpillar eats cake. After one of the children pointed that out, we began talking about who likes cake, what type of cake, and what color. Because there was so much excitement around the cake in the book, we thought we should make a cake. We used a recipe from scratch. Each child took turns and counted out loud each measurement needed. They took turns pouring and stirring the food. When the cake was finished the children enjoyed putting icing on the cake. Each took turns and had their own utensils to apply the icing.
