The Monarch Butterfly

Our current project has been on butterflies! On this particular day we chose the monarch butterfly to study. The materials provided were a variety of orange and black supplies such as, pipe cleaners, construction paper, oil pastels, tape, markers, etc. There were also pictures of the monarch butterfly placed in the midst of the materials so the children could have inspiration for their art. The children started out first using the paint of course, it being their favorite art material. They used the rest of the materials, creating a large collection of monarch inspired art pieces. During the project certain small facts about the monarch butterfly were discussed such as, in what weather they can fly, what can eat them, and of course what colors they are. Through all of our “messy learning” we created beautiful pieces and had a wonderful conversation about butterflies!
