Exploring with Ice

The weather has been so hot lately, that we thought we would incorporate a long investigation of ICE!  We have provided the children with ice in different shapes, colors, and sizes.

We engage in conversation while they explore to help the children understand concepts with the ice.  We talk about how the ice feels, the color, the shape, and allow the children to explore as we talk.  This help the children learn these concepts in a deeper way because they are learning with all of their senses and it is a whole body experience. They love to scoop, pour, fill up containers, and of course………taste the ice!
We put large bowls of ice filled with materials inside, to promote the children’s curiosity.  They explore the ice, and use water and other materials to find ways to get the materials out of the ice.
