Below is a video of several of the Pre School students playing with play dough. While playing, the children touched on so many subjects, like math, literacy, science, discovery, and worked on their fine motor skills during the activity.
The wonderful thing about this activity is that it occurred naturally. The children began playing together at their own will and the play dough project evolved organically. When children are engaged, they stay longer and learn autonomy and independence.
According to research, rich and stimulating experiences provided in a safe, responsive environment create the best conditions for optimal brain development. The key to this kind of play is the teachers respect for the child, the materials, and the availability of open-ended materials. We love open-ended materials here at Little Wonders because they have no predetermined use.
