Lil’ Chefs Baking Chocolate Chip Cookies

Our favorite book in the class right now is, The Little Owl Lost, written by Chris Haughton. The book is about an owl that falls out of his nest and goes on a search to find his mommy with the help of a squirrel and frog. In the end the mommy owl rewards the helpers with an offering of cookies. When we finish reading a book in our class, we take time to ask the children questions about the story, and encourage the children to talk about the book.  Often after reading this book, our conversations are about cookies!  We asked the children what kind of cookies they liked and the favorite was chocolate chip. We love to give the children opportunities to cook, and this was perfect.  We found a recipe online that consisted of

4 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 cups LAND O LAKES® Butter, softened
1 1/4 cups sugar
1 1/4 cups firmly packed brown sugar
1 tablespoon vanilla
1 (12-ounce) package (2 cups) real semi-sweet chocolate chunks or chocolate chips
With the help of our parents, we gave the children the ingredients,
